AltTab for MAC
Windows-style window switcher for Mac: see a preview of every open window and switch with Alt-Tab. Free and open source.
AltTab Overview
AltTab brings the Windows-style window switcher to the Mac. Press the shortcut and you see a preview of every open window, not just every app, so you can jump straight to the right document or browser window, even when one app has many windows open. You can switch between windows on all Spaces and screens, close, minimize or quit them from the switcher, and choose exactly which windows appear. AltTab has been developed by Louis Pontoise since 2018 and has been downloaded millions of times.
AltTab's core features are free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license, and stay free. An optional AltTab Pro adds window search, more styles, auto-size and extra shortcuts, and every Pro feature can be tried free for 14 days. AltTab runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 12 or later, and needs Accessibility and Screen Recording permission to list windows and show their previews.
Key Features
AltTab makes switching windows as fast as switching apps.
- Window previews: see a live thumbnail of every window before you switch.
- Every window: switch to individual windows, not just apps.
- All Spaces and screens: include or exclude windows on other Spaces and displays.
- Window actions: close, minimize, fullscreen or quit an app right from the switcher.
- Shortcuts: use Alt-Tab, Command-Tab or your own keys, with several shortcuts at once.
- Styles: choose thumbnails, app icons or a title list, in light or dark.
- Filters: hide apps, hidden windows or minimized windows from the list.
- Privacy: no tracking and no telemetry.

AltTab FAQ
Is AltTab free?
Yes. AltTab is free and open source, and its core features stay free forever. AltTab Pro, an optional paid upgrade, adds search, more styles, auto-size and extra shortcuts, with a 14-day free trial.
How is AltTab different from Command-Tab?
Command-Tab switches between apps. AltTab switches between individual windows and shows a preview of each one, so you can pick the exact window you want.
Which macOS version does AltTab need?
AltTab needs macOS 12 Monterey or later.
Does AltTab run on Apple Silicon?
Yes. AltTab runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Why does AltTab ask for Screen Recording permission?

Can I use Command-Tab as the AltTab shortcut?
Yes. You can set the shortcut to Alt-Tab, Command-Tab or any other key combination, and use several shortcuts with different settings.
Does AltTab show windows from other Spaces?

Does AltTab collect my data?
No. AltTab says it has no tracking and no telemetry.
Can I install AltTab with Homebrew?
Yes. Run brew install --cask alt-tab.

Similar Apps
WindowCycleWindowCycle is a window switcher for the app you are using right now. Press Command + ` and a panel lists the windows of the frontmost app; keep pressing to move forward, add Shift to move back, and release Command to bring the selected window to the front. Escape hides the panel, and a menu bar item offers Show, Hide, Settings and Quit. Unlike the built-in shortcut, you can see every window of the app before you pick one.Customization
PlonkPlonk is a free, open-source toolbox for the Mac that puts a set of everyday utilities behind one menu bar icon. It arranges windows in snap zones you draw yourself, saves workspaces that put apps back on the right monitor, takes and annotates screenshots, copies text from anything on screen with on-device OCR, measures the screen in points and pixels, keeps the Mac awake and adds pointer tools. Every tool shares one interface, one command palette and one set of settings, and each module except the shortcut guide can be switched off.Customization
NudgeNudge is a free, open-source window manager for the Mac. It lives in the menu bar and lets you snap windows into halves, quarters, thirds and two-thirds, maximize or center them, or restore their previous size with a keyboard shortcut. You can also drag a window to a screen edge or corner to snap it into place, so arranging a desk full of apps takes a keystroke instead of careful resizing.Customization
Window GlueWindow Glue is a small macOS menu bar utility that lets you glue two windows together so that they behave, mostly, as one. Turn on Add Glue from the menu bar icon, drag a window near another, and a glow shows where it will snap. Once they are joined, moving one window brings the other along. Shake a window quickly to break the connection.Customization
DockitDockit is a small macOS window management tool focused on one job: docking windows to the edge of the screen and previewing them quickly. Send a window to the left or right edge and it tucks away, leaving a sliver showing. Move the pointer to that edge and the window expands, then it retracts when you leave. It is useful for a window you check often, such as notes, a chat or a terminal, without giving it a permanent place on the screen.Customization
LoopLoop makes window management on the Mac quick and elegant. Hold down a trigger key and move your cursor in a direction: a radial menu appears and Loop moves and resizes the window to match, for example to the left half, a corner or full screen. A preview shows the new size before you let go. If you prefer the keyboard, you can give every action its own shortcut together with the trigger key, and cycles let you step through several sizes by pressing the same shortcut again.Customization
